Suffering Beyond
Success
Do you know what it's like to be sick every day
To wake up each morning hoping that it's gone away
If we dare tell anyone they stare with disbelief and doubt
So mostly in silence we suffer day in and day out
Weeks turn into months, months turn into years
Being fired for complaining is one of our many fears
All they care about is the bottom line
Get over it we're told, the rest of us are fine
If you look around you will see thousands of us among you
Even if you don't believe it how do you know it's not true?
I wrote this poem years ago. I chose a title using S.B.S. to represent Sick Building Syndrome. That was the only name I could find for the symptons I began suffering over five years ago. Today it is also referred to as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. I had no control over the environment that created these symptons (including migraine headaches which I never had prior to this).
During my research I learned that I needed to stop bringing toxic chemicals into my home but I could not find alternative products. Fortunately, I was introduced to a catalog company that had non-toxic cleaning products. I believed I would have to give up a little quality with these new safer products. WOW, was I wrong. The products actually work better than the junk I was using. As an added bonus I don't have to go to the store to look for them because they are delivered right to my home.
As they say "timing is everything" and perhaps I would not of been ready to switch prior to becoming so sick. I assumed that products you could walk into any store and buy had to be safe. WOW, was I wrong.
I can help you with consumable household products but please also do your homework before buying furniture and carpet, etc. When asked, I believe most people would say yes, they are concerned about the environment. If you really are why not support companies that are too?
